Best Uses

Use this load when you want to see what your rifle can really do on paper. A 168-grain match bullet is a common choice for 30-06 bolt guns and target rifles. Shoot three or five-shot groups and log the results. Black Hills Gold 30-06 168 grain rounds also make good practice ammo before a hunt, since the bullet weight is close to many hunting loads. This is a match hollow point, not a hunting bullet, so stick to paper and steel. Reloaders will like the clean brass for later use.

FAQ

How far can a 30-06 bullet travel?
A 30-06 bullet can travel several miles in the worst case, such as a shot fired at a high angle. Always use a safe backstop. Aimed shooting happens at far shorter ranges.

What is the diameter of a 30-06 bullet?
A 30-06 Springfield bullet is .308 inch in diameter. That is the same size used by the .308 Winchester.

Is match ammo good for hunting?
Match hollow points are made for accuracy on paper, not controlled expansion. Pick a hunting bullet for game and keep this box for the range.

Can I reload Black Hills Gold brass?
Yes. The brass cases use Boxer primers and are listed as reloadable. Match shooters often reload their own brass to keep every round as close to the last as they can.
