Best Uses

Bring this box to a vintage rifle match or a long practice session on paper. The high-BC ELD Match bullet holds speed and resists wind at 200 to 600 yards. Garand owners should pick loads suited to the rifle’s gas system and check their rifle’s guidance. It is a target bullet, so use a hunting load for game. Keep the brass for handloads. Hornady Vintage Match 30-06 168 grain helps an older rifle show what it can still do.

FAQ

What ammo for M1 Garand?
Most Garand shooters use 150 to 168 grain loads that suit the rifle’s gas system. Very heavy bullets and hot hunting loads can strain the operating rod, so check your rifle’s guidance first.

What is 30-06 match ammo?
Match ammo is built for accuracy on targets. This load uses the ELD Match bullet, which is a target bullet, not a hunting bullet.

Can you hunt with ELD Match bullets?
ELD Match is sold as a target bullet. For hunting, choose a bullet built for game, such as the ELD-X or a bonded or soft point design.

What test barrel was used?
Hornady lists the 2,710 fps velocity from a 24-inch test barrel. The Garand’s barrel is also 24 inches, so speeds should be in a similar range.
