Best Uses

Take this box to the range first. Fire a few groups to set your zero, then keep the rest for the hunt. A 180-grain bullet carries more weight into shoulder bone and thick hide than lighter 30-06 loads, which is why many elk and moose hunters choose it. It still works well on deer inside normal ranges. Expect a bit more recoil than a 150-grain load. If you hunt in timber or brush, the Remington Core-Lokt 30-06 180 grain soft point is a steady, simple choice that feeds from most bolt rifles and semi-autos.

FAQ

Is 30-06 good for elk?
Yes, with the right bullet. A 180-grain soft point like this one is a common elk choice. Keep shots to ranges where you can place the bullet well, and practice from field positions.

Is 30-06 bigger than 308?
The 30-06 case is longer than the 308 Winchester case, so it holds more powder. Both fire a .308-inch bullet, but the 30-06 can push heavy bullets a bit faster.

Can you buy rifle ammo at 18?
Under federal law a licensed dealer can sell rifle ammunition to buyers 18 and older. Some states and cities add their own limits, so check local rules before you order.

Is soft point ammo good for hunting?
Yes. A soft point has exposed lead at the tip, so it opens up in game and makes a wide wound channel. It is one of the oldest and most common hunting bullet types.
